Welcome to the Infection Explorer! This is a simple simulator that shows the impact of Social Distancing on the spread of an infection disease through a population.
According to the United States CDC, "Social distancing means remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible."
With the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential that we work together to curb the spread of this desease and "flatten the curve" so to speak
so that our healthcare workers can provide quality care to those who get sick. Even if the spread of an infection cannot be stopped, slowing the rate of infection provides communities with
a stronger position to address the illness and time to develop treatments.
Disclaimer: This simulator is (very) simple and is only designed for entertainment and educational use.
Many arbitrary assumptions are used to model the spread of an infection; the goal here is simply to show that increased social distancing does improve a population's outcomes when facing an infectious disease.
